By train faster to Zakopane, thanks to Kombud devices.

Andrzej Bartosiewicz

Kombud has completed the implementation of control systems along the entire route from Kraków to Zakopane. Various contracts have resulted in computer control systems designed and manufactured in Poland. They enable the direction and control of railway traffic on sections of railway lines 99, 98, 97, and 94. A total of 603 signals, 314 switch drives, and 134 level crossing systems have been installed along the entire route.

The selection of a local contractor will facilitate the modernization of the route in the future if new traffic organization projects arise.

Upon receiving the documentation, we can quickly implement the application because we have everything on site - resources, competence, and components. By building local control centers, we can modify the dispatcher positions, introduce versatility to the positions, and optimize processes. At most stations, for example at night when fewer trains operate, the dispatcher can manage traffic over a longer section of the route – says Norbert Czarnecki, head of the station systems department at Kombud Automation.

A key element of the investment was the launch of the Local Control Center in Zakopane, from which traffic on railway line 99 is managed. The LCS Zakopane has incorporated the stations of Nowy Targ, Szaflary, Biały Dunajec, and Poronin, and is equipped with MOR-1 computer overlays that allow for the control of relay systems. Previously, these stations were serviced locally, and now they are monitored centrally from one location. The Zakopane station itself is equipped with a MOR-3 type computer system.

– The launch of the Local Control Center in Zakopane is a perfect example of our comprehensive and multi-stage projects. Last year, we successfully implemented 46 new systems, and now, thanks to LCS Zakopane, we are increasing capacity, safety, and travel comfort for hundreds of thousands of passengers – says Artur Marcinkiewicz, president of the board at Kombud Automation.

The railway route from Kraków to Zakopane is one of the most congested and demanding routes in Poland. This line serves hundreds of thousands of passengers traveling to the mountains every year. Recently, modern railway traffic control systems designed and manufactured by Kombud Automation have been implemented along this entire route. Thanks to this investment, it has been possible to increase the capacity of the line, streamline traffic management, and enhance safety levels – for both passengers and railway workers.

Kombud Group S.A. brings together dynamic companies that provide digital solutions for critical infrastructure and industry. Over the 35 years of operation, Kombud Group has implemented over 300 station systems for railways and subways and approximately 3000 traffic security systems at level crossings. Kombud’s computer systems manage traffic on the Central Rail Line (CMK), at Warsaw's railway junction stations, on the Heavy-Haul Line, as well as on both lines of the Warsaw Metro.

More than 700 employees, including 400 engineers, create, patent, and implement modern solutions for the metro and rail, based on European standards. A member of the Group, Rail-Mil Computers, produces among others eurobalises, controllers, LEU encoders, and other electronic components, as well as the rmCBTC® system, which enables automatic train movement. The Kombud Group also includes the company Metroprojekt, which designed most of the tunnels and stations on the first and second lines of the Warsaw Metro, and obtained the first building permit for a section of the High-Speed Rail in Poland.
